If you’re looking for an easy, decadent and healthy chocolate treat, look no further. These rich double chocolate overnight oats are full of chocolate flavor and delicious textures that will please all your chocolate cravings the right way!
They take 5 minutes to put together, with ingredients that you probably already have, and another 5 minutes (or less!) to assemble. The only bad thing about these chocolate oats would be not to make them!
What do you need to make Double Chocolate Overnight Oats
- Old-fashioned rolled oats: these are the ones I use for the best results. Steel-cut will not be soft enough and quick oats will lose their consistency and will become too soggy overnight.
- Milk: I used macadamia milk but any kind will work with this recipe. You can also use chocolate milk and skip the chocolate syrup and sugar.
- Chocolate syrup: I used sugar-free chocolate syrup to control the amount of sugar in the recipe. I used it to make the chocolate milk and to serve the oats.
- Chia seeds: they will expand overnight, adding that pudding-like texture to your oats, not to mention the amount of fiber and high-quality protein, minerals, and antioxidants they provide.
- Chocolate chips: why not? the chips will add that delicious creamy chocolate flavor and will not dissolve overnight providing that delicious soft bite combined with all the other delicious textures! This recipe is an excellent way to use the leftover chocolate chips from those chocolate cookies you baked, and that chocolate syrup lingering in the refrigerator.
- Pure vanilla extract and sweetener – or sugar: I used natural sugar-free macadamia milk. I added the vanilla and the sweetener to the milk, and the chocolate syrup. I wanted to be able to control the amount of sugar and the chocolate flavor.
- Pinch of salt: to enhance the flavors and offset the sweetness.
How to make chocolate overnight oats
- To prepare the chocolate milk: add chocolate syrup, vanilla, and sugar (or sweetener) to the milk and whisk until combined. Adjust sugar to taste. Mix chocolate chips, chia seeds, salt, and oats in a mason jar.
- Pour the chocolate milk into the oats mixture and stir.
- Refrigerate covered overnight.
- Next day, stir and serve!
Serve suggestion: drizzle a little chocolate syrup on the bottom, add the chocolate oats, 1 tbs of vanilla yogurt, granola a teaspoon of cherry sauce (recipe here), or preserves. Top with cherries if available, and another drizzle of chocolate syrup for a decadent and beautiful dessert!
