They say chocolate makes everything better, I would say that pretty much baking makes everything better…
However, there’s something about marble cakes that makes me weak. I am not particularly a chocolate person but I really enjoy a good bite of a marble cake with an intense vanilla flavor on the light side. The contrast between the sweet vanilla with the unsweetened cocoa is something I can’t resist!
I used an extra teaspoon of vanilla for these muffins. They are filled with Nutella and mixed with the cocoa, so I thought that the chocolate flavor was going to overpower the vanilla. But you can add just 2 teaspoons if you prefer a more subtle vanilla flavor.
I love the fact that you can basically design how they are going to look just by stirring the vanilla side with the chocolate side. Also, you can increase the amount of Nutella depending on the side of your muffin pan.
I used a standard size 12 muffin pan and 1 tsp of Nutella per muffin.
These guys were a total success! They are amazing as an afternoon snack or as a quick delicious bite with your morning coffee.
I hope you enjoy them as much as we did!
Nutella Stuffed Marble Muffins
Sweet Vanilla and Chocolate Marble muffins stuffed with delicious and creamy Nutella
Ingredients
- 1 and 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter - at room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 2-3 tsp of vanilla extract
- 1 and 1/4 cup of milk
- 1 and 1/2 cup of sugar
- 2 and 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 2 and 1/2 tsp of baking powder
- 2 tsp of unsweetened cocoa
- 15-18 tsp of Nutella (1 tsp per muffin)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375° Fahrenheit.
- Line your muffin pan with muffin papers and grease them with cooking spray
- Place the butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment and start mixing until creamy. Add sugar and keep mixing until fluffy and creamy - for about 4-5 minutes
- Add one egg at a time at low speed and add the vanilla extract. Scrap down the bowl
- On a separate bowl, mix the flour, the salt, and the baking powder
- Alternately add the flour and the milk until combined.
- Divide the batter between 2 bowls - I used 1/3 of the batter to mix with the cocoa
- Add 2 tsp of unsweetened cocoa to one of the bowls and mix until combined.
- Start filling the cups alternately with 1 tsp of vanilla batter and 1 tsp of chocolate batter. Swirl the mixture with a skewer and fill up to 1/3 of the muffin cup
- Add 1 tsp of nutella in the center - I used 2 teaspoons to open the space to place 1 teaspoon of nutella. Pour more vanilla and chocolate batter to fill the 3/4 of the muffin cup. Swirl with the skewer avoiding the center to obtain the marble effect on the top.
- Bake for 20minutes or until lightly golden on top.
- Place muffins in a cooling rack and let them cool completely before serving.
Notes
Muffins are moist and better on the same day they were baked
